Sherry Coakley, CRNA, MSN

Sherry’s journey in the medical field began in 1993 when she graduated as a nurse, eventually returning to CRNA school in 2012 at USF. Sherry currently works 1099 at Pediatric Surgery Centers. She has amassed over 20 years of pediatric critical care experience, including roles in Level 3 NICU, Level 1 trauma care, CVICU for pediatric congenital hearts, and as a Flight Nurse. Her passion lies in holistic anesthesia for sick infants and children, offering comfort to parents during vulnerable moments. Sherry is equally enthusiastic about “paying it forward” by teaching the upcoming generation of medical professionals. She imparts her expertise to SRNAs (Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists) through various simulation scenarios and pediatric lectures.

Lauren Freedman, CRNA, DNP

Co-founder of Timeout Retreats

With over three decades of experience in healthcare, Lauren brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. She graduated with a nursing degree in 1993 and began her career as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. After relocating to Baltimore, she expanded her expertise as a Pediatric Lifeflight Nurse and worked in Shock Traumas admitting. Fueled by a dedication to advancing her practice, Lauren pursued a Master’s in Nursing at the University of Maryland and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in Nurse Anesthesia. Driven by her desire to provide comfort and alleviate the fears of children and their families, Lauren finds immense fulfillment in her role as a CRNA. Her compassionate approach to patient care extends beyond the operating room, exemplified by her involvement in over 20 medical missions worldwide, where she provides anesthesia for life-changing surgeries.

Mike Broussard, CRNA, Guest lecturer

Mike has worked in healthcare for over 30 years with the majority being spent in the trauma / critical care areas. After finishing his undergraduate education, Mike worked as a nurse at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. His focus was caring for patients with traumatic brain injuries and traumatic spinal cord injuries. He later advanced to a senior partner role overlooking the Neurotrauma Unit. The desire to advance his role as a provider led him to enroll in the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the University of Maryland. Upon graduation, Mike remained at Shock Trauma working as a CRNA in the trauma operating rooms.

There is a hospital-based field provider unit at Shock Trauma known as the Go Team. Mike serves as the anesthesia lead for the Go Team. This role allows him to speak locally and nationally on trauma related topics. He has published peer-reviewed journal articles on trauma care. In addition to trauma anesthesia, Mike practices at a couple ASCs providing office-based anesthesia care.

Being a life-long Maryland resident, Mike is an avid Ravens and Orioles fan. He has a lovely wife and four wonderful children. Two Rhodesian Ridgebacks complete his family tree. When not working, Mike enjoys his family, sporting events, gardening, and reading.

Matt Hemrick, CRNA, Guest Lecturer

My name is Matt Hemrick. I have been a CRNA since 2008 in Birmingham, AL. During that time, I have worked in a number of different practice models and managed multiple practices in the southeast. I am currently Chief at St. Vincents Birmingham. I enjoy OB, regional anesthesia, and the business of anesthesia. I have served on our state board for 10 + years and like staying involved while protecting and promoting CRNA practice.
